The Importance of Master Planning

Master planning is a product of landscape architecture degrees. Master planning is a turnkey comprehensive approach to a residential pool design. The pool is only one aspect of master planning. What we look at on master planning is privacy, sun angles, views, and drainage. It has more aspects to do with where you’re going to eat, where you’re going to cook, where you’re going to tan, where are you going to watch a ballgame. Those are the things that people are concerned about that have nothing to do with the pool.

The swimming pool gets you outside. The master plan creates the rooms outside that allow you to have that kitchen, that outdoor movie theater, that tv wall, that fire pit area for s’mores. Those are the things that create a master plan. Master planning is critical to an integrated backyard design.

So master planning is a comprehensive approach that basically takes an outside shape and creates what we call an exterior floor plan. That floor plan is comprised of the pool area, the cabana area, the putting green, the sunken trampoline, the kitchen, the bathroom. All of those things that you would see in a house and you would use living in a house are what create an exterior comprehensive master plan.

Pool companies, as a whole, are volume based and not generally concerned with uniquely designed master plans. In order to create steady cash flow they find a few pool designs they are comfortable building and then replicate these choice pools. This benefits them because they know exactly how to build that pool, how much money they will make, and the subs can construct them more rapidly.

There is a place for volume and replication and there is a place for uniqueness and innovation, Marquise Pools is the latter. We strive for innovation. Many of our clients spend the money they do for a unique and innovative design that no one else has. Too many times have we seen the same pool built repeatedly. For the money that many of these pools cost, there should be a uniqueness tailored to that particular family and architecture. That is Marquise Pools primary mission, to create original and innovative design master plans.
